Pay survey

What is a pay survey?

The gender equality plan shall be primarily concerned with promoting equality in pay and other terms of employment.

For the purpose of equality planning, an assessment of the gender equality situation in the workplace is to be prepared. The assessment shall include details of the employment of women and men in different jobs and a survey of the grade of jobs performed by women and men, the pay for those jobs and the differences in pay. This is called a pay survey.

The pay survey is an obligatory part of the gender equality assessment. The provision on the obligation to conduct a pay survey entered into force on 1 June 2005.

The purpose of the pay survey

The purpose of the pay survey is to ensure that there are no unjustified pay differences between women and men at the workplace. The pay system shall meet the requirements of the Equality Act and it must not contradict the prohibitions of discrimination under the Act.
