Anti-discrimination provisions in other legislation

The Finnish Non-Discrimination Act, which entered into force on 1 February 2004, prohibits discrimination on the basis of age, ethnic or national origin, nationality, language, religion, belief, opinion, health, disability, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics. Discrimination on these grounds is also prohibited under the Constitution of Finland, the Finnish Employment.

Supervision

The Finnish Ombudsman for Minorities and the National Discrimination Tribunal of Finland are responsible for supervising compliance with the laws that guarantee equal treatment for everyone regardless of ethnic origin outside professional life.

Occupational health and safety authorities are responsible for supervising compliance with the Finnish Equality Act in the workplace. Any violations of the anti-discrimination provisions of the Finnish Equality Act that take place in the workplace or in connection with recruitment should be reported to occupational health and safety authorities.

Suspected violations or negligence of public authorities, civil servants, or other persons or organisations charged with public service responsibilities should be reported to the Parliamentary Ombudsman of Finland or to the Finnish Chancellor of Justice.
